Wendell Cox

Wendell Cox Wendell Cox is the principal of Wendell Cox Consultancy (Demographia), a St. Louis area international transport, demographics and public policy firm. His is also a visiting professor at Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (Paris) – a national university with 80,000 students, granting up to doctoral degrees.

Wendell was appointed to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission by Mayor Tom Bradley, representing the city of Los Angeles (1977-1985). In connection with that role, he served as Chair, Service Coordination Committee, 1978-1985; Member, Finance Review Committee (1977-1985); Member, Rail Construction Committee (1983-1985); Chair, American Public Transit Association Policy & Planning Committee (1982-4); Chair, American Public Transit Association Governing Boards Committee (1984-5); Chair, Transportation Research Board National Energy Contingency Planning Conference (1983).

In 1999, Wendell was appointed by then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to fill the unexpired term of New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman on the Amtrak Reform Council. He has also held consulting assignments in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and Africa.

He is a member of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Competition and Ownership in Surface Passenger Transport and the Scientific Committee, CODATU XI – a conference on urban transport in developing countries.

Other notable projects include: Principal author of guidelines for conversion of all New Zealand urban transport to competition (1991); Performance analysis of British Columbia Transit (Vancouver) for the NDP (socialist) government in 1991; cost analysis of proposed municipal consolidation for the city of Toronto (1997); author of Smart Growth & Housing Opportunity: Paper for the Congressional Millennial Housing Commission; and author of America’s Protected Class: Analysis of government versus private employee compensation.
